"The Chinese Communist Party is always right."

This phrase is more than just a propaganda slogan. It is the core philosophy of authoritarianism that denies error and control politics that suppress criticism. Wrongdoings are blamed on external factors, and raising issues is considered "anti-establishment." Thus, where legitimacy and responsibility simultaneously disappear, only obedience remains.

Surprisingly, the current ruling party in South Korea, the Democratic Party of Korea, is increasingly approaching this philosophy. Criticism is branded as "far-right," and allegations are dismissed as "fake news." The media is pressured, and judicial proceedings are halted. How different is the offensive logic of "doubting elections is a crime" from that of the Communist Party? Hiding behind the slogan "We are right," power is evolving in a direction where it is not subject to checks.

Where does this path lead? A hint of this was revealed last week in Jiangyou City, Sichuan Province, China.

In mid-July, a video of a 14-year-old girl being assaulted by her peers was filmed and spread on social media. However, authorities only imposed a simple correctional measure on the perpetrators. Citizens' anger erupted due to the attempt to cover up the incident. The scene of the victim's parents kneeling and crying moved the hearts of Jiangyou citizens, and hundreds gathered in front of the city hall.

But their cries did not last long. The public security police moved to forcibly disperse the crowd, and the person filming the video was arrested. Social media accounts were suspended, and all search terms related to the "Jiangyou incident" were deleted. We once again witnessed how the "always right government" erases truth.

The Democratic Party of Korea should not regard this situation as someone else's problem.

Every attempt to suppress public criticism, block election-related doubts, and control the judiciary ultimately leads to Jiangyou. The public is always silent at first, but at some point, they explode. In a society that cannot be physically blocked like China, a greater backlash may occur.

What is needed now is not obedience, but questions.

Power can be wrong. Systems can fail. In such situations, democracy begins with the courage to look at its own mistakes and limitations. But the current administration is the opposite. Every failure is blamed on "the people," "the media," or "the previous administration." The delusion that "we are always right" is the most dangerous error.

The tears of the mother kneeling on the streets of Jiangyou could be a mirror for South Korea.

Before it's too late, we must ask:

"To what extent has today's control evolved?"

"Are we truly free?"
