The Daegu Struggle Headquarters for National Salvation (Daetubon) doesn't hesitate to charter buses for important rallies and travel to Seoul as a group. This passion cannot be explained solely by the fact that they are citizens from 'Daegu, the heart of conservatism.' What secret does Daetubon hold?

On the 6th, the day before the parliamentary vote on the constitutional amendment bill—the first in 39 years—the '1 Night 2 Days Rally to Block Constitutional Amendment' was held in front of Exit 2 of National Assembly Station in Yeouido, Seoul.

Donation Lists and Details Managed Transparently

The rally, held for 1 night and 2 days from 6:30 PM on the 6th to 10:00 PM on the 7th, was organized by the Daegu Struggle Headquarters for National Salvation (Daetubon) and participated in by about 10 organizations, including the Republic of Korea Mom's Brigade and the Park Chung-hee Academy Alumni Association.

Choi Young-ho, the head of Daetubon, who traveled all the way from Daegu by chartering a bus, boasted about Daetubon's passion, saying, "We held an impromptu meeting at 9 PM last night, and the 45-seat bus filled up instantly." He also mentioned that because everyone eagerly volunteered to donate supplies, necessary items such as bottled water, instant noodles, mats, kimbap, and trash bags were quickly secured.

Civil society organizations based in Seoul, observing Daetubon's passion, unanimously commented, "We feel almost apologetic that people from Daegu, who travel such a long distance, are consistently supplying bottled water and instant noodles."

Where does this passion come from? Choi Young-ho, head of Daetubon, stated, "It is the heart of all patriotic citizens to want to spend their own money and time when the nation is in difficulty." He added, "Daetubon transparently discloses all donation details and their usage, and expresses sincere gratitude. It seems that this trust leads to stronger unity."

Nowadays, people are hesitant to volunteer and donate, even if they have the will, because they cannot be sure if their money is being used effectively and appropriately. In Daetubon's group chat, donation participants' names and details are transparently disclosed, such as: △500 bottles of water from King Yoon TV △3 boxes of coffee mix from Go Do-wook TV △1000 bottles of water from Lee Jung-nim △500 bottles of water from Park Won-gil △400 packets of coffee mix from Freedom of Korea Guardians △2 boxes of cups (2,000) from Kwon In-young and Bae Jong-hwa △1 box of Acafella Americano (30 bottles) from Uhm Soo-kyung.

Founded on the Occasion of the April 15th Fraudulent Election in 2020

Daetubon was founded in 2020. It emerged from calls to investigate the April 15th fraudulent election and has continued its activities to this day. Currently, about 1,000 members are active, primarily through an open chat room, with around 200 actively participating. Although these 200 members represent only about one ten-thousandth of Daegu's total population (2.35 million), they can be considered a core conservative force that significantly influences the entire city.

Currently, Daegu serves as the last bastion that rallies voter support and sustains conservative parties whenever they face a crisis. Daegu is not merely a region of 'blind conservatism' but is fulfilling the original function of conservatism by pursuing social integration and defending constitutional values. Furthermore, it is emerging as the future of Korean conservatism, having recently hosted the fourth 'Rally to Protect the ROK-US Alliance and Liberal Democracy' (also known as the Umbrella Revolution).

During the fourth Umbrella Revolution, Daetubon members took the lead in various tasks, from distributing flyers and unloading supplies to setting up 5,000 chairs and operating a Marine Corps guard unit, ensuring the successful execution of the event. The security team's mission posted in the chat room at the time played a significant role in safely operating the event by △maintaining order at the rally △ensuring the safety of key figures and participants △immediately responding to any unexpected situations and proactively blocking external interference.

Jeon Han-gil, who forged a strong bond with Daetubon through the fourth Umbrella Revolution, also visited the Daetubon's rally site in front of the National Assembly on the midnight of the 6th to encourage the members participating in the all-night rally.

'Division and Obstruction within Conservative Organizations' is the Most Difficult Challenge

Choi Young-ho cited 'division and obstruction within conservative organizations' as the most challenging moments in leading the group. He pointed out that criticizing, slandering, and plotting against well-functioning organizations, instead of offering help, is something that should be strictly avoided. While Daetubon is not a group that will be swayed by the obstruction of one or two individuals, envy and the appropriation of credit among allies is something that should absolutely not happen in the world of activism.

Representative Choi stated, "It is encouraging when people show interest, wondering how Choi Young-ho sustains himself. My personal bank account has been depleted for a long time, and although my wife would be furious if she knew, I have come this far with your interest and support. I bow in gratitude to all the Daetubon members who have consistently stood by me. I will gather my strength and lead the charge in protecting our Republic of Korea."

Thanks to Daetubon's all-night rallies and their calls to oppose constitutional amendments, the Democratic Party-led amendment bill was thwarted on the 8th. The immediate crisis has been averted, but there is still a long way to go. Local elections must be held, and fraudulent elections must be investigated. We look forward to Daetubon's significant contributions.
