This week's funds reflected not only semiconductor performance but also AI bottlenecks and changes in the infrastructure of the Korean stock market. [Photo = Hanmiilbo Composite]The theme of this week's trend is 'From Semiconductors to Plumbing'.
The money didn't leave; it repositioned itself.
In the US, falling oil prices and expectations for tech stock earnings converged, attracting funds to semiconductor and AI infrastructure-related stocks.
In Korea, this trend spread to a rally in large-cap semiconductor stocks led by Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix. Semiconductors became the market's subject again, and brokerage stocks followed suit.
This week, the Capital Rotation Radar has one question.
Did the money flow only into semiconductors, or has it started to buy into the plumbing changes of the Korean stock market as well?
Three structures were confirmed in this week's fund flows.
First, global funds looked again at AI semiconductors.
Memory semiconductors were no longer viewed as merely cyclical components as in the past.
As investments in AI servers and data centers grow, High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) has emerged as a bottleneck asset determining computational performance. Companies that control the bottleneck have pricing power.
This logic became the starting point for the re-evaluation of large-cap Korean semiconductor stocks.
Second, large-cap semiconductor stocks became the center of funds in the Korean market.
SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics began to be re-evaluated not just as beneficiaries of an industry upturn, but as key suppliers in the AI ecosystem. The market no longer looks only at memory prices. It looks at who has HBM supply capability, who is connected to global big tech clients, and who can wield pricing power for the bottleneck.
Third, funds also spread to brokerage stocks.
On the surface, it's a benefit from increased trading volume. However, it's insufficient to view this week's brokerage stock trends solely based on expectations of brokerage revenue.
Foreigner omnibus accounts, global broker linkages, and expectations of inclusion in the MSCI (Morgan Stanley Capital International) developed markets index are changes that lower the entry cost into the Korean capital market. Brokerage firms are sectors that can collect fees for this change.
This week, money didn't just buy semiconductor performance. It bought the AI bottleneck and the changes in the Korean stock market's plumbing together.
Next week's checkpoints are threefold.
First, we need to confirm whether the funds concentrated in large-cap semiconductor stocks are spreading to power, equipment, materials, and data centers.
Second, we need to see if the strength in brokerage stocks is a one-off benefit from trading volume or a re-evaluation of foreigner omnibus account expectations.
Third, we need to confirm through supply and demand flows whether foreign funds view the Korean market as a short-term trading target or a structural allocation expansion target.
