The civic group, People's Economic Welfare Committee (PEWC), is launching the 'Seo-Byeon' system to protect ordinary citizens, the elderly, and youth exposed to unreasonable investigations and human rights violations.
On the 18th, the PEWC announced its intention to engage in legal support activities for the public by forming the 'Lawyers' Association for the People (Seo-Byeon),' comprising lawyers and journalists, at its office located in Yeouido, Seoul.
Kim Soon-hwan, Secretary-General of the PEWC, emphasized, "We plan to take the lead in social reform by uniting lawyers, journalists, and civic groups," and added, "To create a sound society, a structure must be established where journalists raise suspicions, civic groups file complaints, and investigative agencies conduct investigations."
He further explained, "We will initially provide legal assistance to the socially vulnerable, including ordinary citizens, the elderly, and youth, who fall into a blind spot in legal services," and "We plan to establish a system to discuss and respond to various civil complaints received from local areas with lawyers."
This initiative is expected to offer a ray of hope to ordinary citizens weary of the incompetence of the political sphere.
Meanwhile, the event was attended by Park Ju-hyun, President of the Free Lawyers Association, Yoon Seung-hyun, a lawyer at Law Firm Chang, Kang Shin-up, a YouTuber and lawyer, as well as reporters from daily and online newspapers.
