Unidentified anomalous phenomenon captured in the Middle East in 2021 [Screenshot from the U.S. Department of Defense's PERSUE site]
The number of views on the U.S. government's public website for Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs) and Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAPs) (www.war.gov/UFO/) has surpassed 1 billion, with additional documents released on the 22nd (local time).
The U.S. government established the official site, named 'PURSUE' (Presidential Unsealing and Reporting System for UAP Encounters), on the 8th, based on an executive order by President Donald Trump, and released the first batch of data.
The files released on the 22nd as a second batch include a wide range of eyewitness reports and visual materials collected by U.S. military and government agencies over the past few years, as well as historical records from decades ago, across all domains including air, space, ground, and sea.
Based on compressed file sizes, the second release of documents and videos were 70.1MB and 5.6GB, respectively. The first release consisted of 1.2GB of documents and 1.3GB of videos.
According to Reuters, among the documents released in the second batch is a 116-page report containing sightings and investigation records reported around a top-secret facility in Sandia, New Mexico, from 1948 to 1950.
The Department of Defense explained, "This file includes records of 209 sightings of 'green spheres,' 'discs,' and 'fireballs' reported around this military base."
Flight videos of unidentified objects captured in recent conflict zones have also been extensively released.
According to the British newspaper The Guardian, one video, believed to have been taken by an infrared sensor within the U.S. Central Command's area of responsibility in the Middle East in 2019, captured three UAPs flying over the Persian Gulf.
In 2022, a video was taken showing four unidentified objects flying in formation near ships in the waters off Iran.
In 2021, an object that disappeared instantaneously with tremendous acceleration was captured over Syria, and a video from October 2022 shows a cigar-shaped craft speeding over a residential area.
According to U.S. CBS News and the tech media outlet 'CyberNews,' the second batch of released data includes a 46-second infrared video from February 12, 2023, showing a U.S. Air Force Minnesota Air National Guard F-16 fighter jet shooting down a balloon-like unidentified object over Lake Huron near the U.S.-Canada border.
This incident, occurring amidst the heightened tensions surrounding the prior "spy balloon" incident from China, was later determined by the Canadian government, in documents released in November 2024, to be a weather observation device based on the analysis of recovered debris.
The most eye-catching document is the testimony of a current senior intelligence officer who was aboard a military helicopter in late 2025.
He and other helicopter occupants reported witnessing numerous orange spheres flying in swarms in all directions against a mountain backdrop for about an hour at close range.
He specifically stated that he was "virtually speechless" after visually observing two oval spheres, orange in color with white or yellow centers, hovering directly above the helicopter's rotors and emitting light in all directions.
In addition, UFO reports from the U.S. Department of Energy's PANTEX nuclear weapons facility and reports on Soviet intelligence activities concerning UFOs were also released.
Audio files recorded during past NASA missions also garnered public attention.
In October 1962, astronaut Wally Schirra (1923-2007), orbiting the Earth aboard the Mercury-Atlas 8, reported to mission control that small white objects appeared to emerge from the spacecraft capsule, drift, and move away.
NASA concluded that these were ice particles from the spacecraft that detached and reflected sunlight.
Sean Parnell, a spokesperson for the U.S. Department of Defense, stated that this release demonstrates the Trump administration's historic commitment to transparency and the public's keen interest, and announced that a third batch of data will be released, though no specific timeline was provided.
According to CyberNews, users on the internet community 'Reddit' expressed disappointment and fatigue regarding the released data, posting comments such as "Just blurry dots and meaningless lights, no conclusive evidence," and "We want to see alien bodies."
Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson criticized, "In the history of science, the correct explanation has never been magic or aliens."
The All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) under the U.S. Department of Defense reaffirmed its existing stance that there is no conclusive evidence among the thousands of documents released or described that proves the existence of extraterrestrial technology or life.
