US Secretary of State Marco Rubio visiting India [New Delhi AP=Yonhap News]
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on the 23rd (local time) that there is a possibility of announcing an agreement on peace negotiations with Iran as early as the same day.
Rubio, who is visiting New Delhi, India, told reporters that "there is a possibility that we will announce something, whether it's later today, tomorrow, or in a few days," according to Reuters and AFP.
Rubio also said, "There has been some progress. Even as we speak, some efforts are underway."
Rubio's remarks imply that peace negotiations between the US and Iran are progressing, and an agreement could be reached and peace declared between the two countries as early as the same day.
Amid widespread speculation that the Donald Trump administration is seriously considering resuming airstrikes against Iran, mediation efforts are underway behind the scenes, including Pakistani Army Chief General Asim Munir, a key power broker in the country, holding a series of meetings with high-ranking Iranian officials in Tehran.
At one point, Saudi media even reported that a draft agreement between the US and Iran had been prepared, but Iran denied this.
Before departing on a tour of Sweden and India on the 22nd, Rubio told reporters in the US regarding the peace negotiations, "There are some good signs, but I don't want to be overly optimistic. Let's see what happens in the next few days."
