President Trump [AFP Yonhap News]
U.S. President Donald Trump said on the 24th (local time) that he "instructed U.S. representatives negotiating a peace agreement with Iran not to rush to reach an agreement."
Trump said this in a post on the social media platform Truth Social, stating, "(Negotiations with Iran) are proceeding in an orderly and constructive manner."
Trump claimed the reason for instructing not to rush an agreement was that "time is on our side."
He emphasized, "(The U.S.'s maritime blockade of Iran) will remain in full force and effect until an agreement is reached, certified, and signed."
Trump ordered, "Both sides should take their time and do it right. There should be no mistakes."
He also said, "Iran and we are developing a professional and productive relationship," and told Iran, "They must understand that they cannot develop or acquire nuclear weapons or nuclear bombs."
Trump criticized, "One of the worst deals our country ever made was the (2015) Iran nuclear deal. It came into existence through the efforts and signings of amateurs in the Barack Hussein Obama administration. It was a direct path for Iran to develop nuclear weapons."
He emphasized, "The deal currently being negotiated by the Trump administration with Iran is not like that. In fact, it's the exact opposite."
Amidst a series of reports that a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for a peace agreement between the U.S. and Iran is imminent, President Trump's message of "not rushing" is interpreted as a psychological warfare tactic to pressure Iran, as well as a move aware of domestic criticism that the U.S. is willing to make significant concessions on nuclear issues for an early peace settlement.
Additionally, President Trump wrote, "I want to express my gratitude for the support and cooperation shown by all Middle Eastern countries to date. This will be further strengthened as they join the historic 'Abraham Accords' nations. Perhaps the Islamic Republic of Iran will also want to join."
The Abraham Accords were signed during Trump's first term to normalize relations between Israel and neighboring Arab countries, and President Trump is promoting the expansion of these accords to Arab nations.
Prior to this, President Trump posted an image of U.S. bombers striking Iranian vessels at sea on Truth Social, along with the phrase "Adios," signifying farewell.
This could be seen as a message of pressure to Iran, suggesting that if the final negotiations fail, attacks might resume to ensure the opening of the Strait of Hormuz, for example. At the same time, it could also be interpreted as a sign that the end of the Iran war is nearing.
