Officials stated on the 26th (local time) that a chemical tank ruptured in Washington state, USA, on the morning of the 26th, resulting in multiple fatalities and severe injuries, though the exact extent of the damage from the explosion has not yet been confirmed.

The incident occurred around 7:15 AM local time at Nippon Dynawave Packaging Company, a paper mill in Longview, Washington. The tank contained a white liquid, a mixture of sodium hydroxide, sodium sulfide, and sodium carbonate.
According to ABC News, authorities reported that nine individuals at the facility sustained injuries, including chemical burns, and were transported by ambulance to nearby hospitals. The severity of the injuries ranged from critical to minor.

A total of 10 people, including firefighters, are reported to have suffered moderate to severe injuries, including burns.
There were also fatalities and missing persons, but fire officials have not disclosed the exact numbers.
Scott Golgstein, Chief of Cowlitz Fire and Rescue, stated that the number of fatalities is unclear, adding, "There is information regarding the missing persons, but we will not be releasing it."
The cause of the rupture was not immediately determined, but officials indicated that there was no immediate threat to the surrounding community.
The Washington State Department of Ecology has initiated an environmental impact assessment, as it appears the white liquid has leaked into a drainage ditch.
In a joint statement, officials said, "The scene remains in a recovery phase as emergency responders continue their work. Relevant agencies are working closely with facility personnel and cooperating organizations as the investigation and recovery efforts progress."
The Nippon Dynawave Packaging plant, where the accident occurred, produces items such as tissue paper, printing paper, paper cups, and paper plates, and employs approximately 1,000 people. The plant facilities are located near the Columbia River.
