Former Attorney General Pam Bondi announced on Wednesday that she has been diagnosed with thyroid cancer and is recovering after treatment.
Bondi confirmed to CNN that her health status is "good."
The former Attorney General served for over a year in the Trump administration, during which she faced significant criticism for her handling of the Epstein case and several politically sensitive prosecutions.
Early in her tenure, Bondi mishandled the release of Epstein-related materials, primarily by mistakenly distributing binders of the released information to social media influencers.
President Donald Trump dismissed Attorney General Bondi in early April, and Todd Blanche is currently serving as Acting Attorney General.
She was subsequently investigated for the Justice Department's delay in releasing files after President Trump signed legislation forcing the department to do so.
She is scheduled to testify on Friday before the House Oversight Committee's investigation into Jeffrey Epstein.
She has taken on a new role within the administration, joining the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, Axios reported on Tuesday the 26th.
The council is co-chaired by David Sax, former White House AI Advisor, and Michael Kratsios, White House Science Advisor.
The council's roster includes over a dozen IT industry executives, including Jensen Huang, co-founder of Nvidia; Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta; and Larry Ellison, co-founder of Oracle.
Axios reported that former Secretary Bondi will be responsible for coordinating between the government and the IT titans involved in the council.
According to Axios, Bondi will also serve in a newly created advisory role related to national infrastructure.
