Min Kyung-wook, a former member of the National Assembly who has been at the forefront of publicizing the issue of election fraud, has reportedly delivered a letter to the United States concerning former President Yoon Suk-yeol.

As the Korea Representative of KCPAC, Min attended the "CPAC Circle Retreat and Gala" held at the Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach, Florida, from the 4th to the 7th.

In a phone call with News & Post on Friday the 7th, Min stated that he had delivered a letter to Matt Schlapp, the Chairman of CPAC. However, he did not disclose who wrote the letter or its contents.

Schlapp, who is also the chairman of the American Conservative Union (ACU), the largest conservative civil organization in the United States, is considered to have played a pivotal role in the election victories of President Donald Trump in the 2016 and 2024 presidential elections. Therefore, it is highly probable that this letter will be delivered to President Trump.

Furthermore, Min met with Tulsi Gabbard, the Director of National Intelligence (DNI), on the evening of Thursday the 6th. He explained the critical state of South Korea's liberal democracy and stated his readiness to provide a more detailed briefing if necessary. Former Ambassador for International Criminal Justice Mostan was also present at this meeting.

Min relayed that Director Gabbard responded, "I am watching the current situation in South Korea very closely."

While it remains uncertain whether the U.S. administration will directly intervene in the issue of election fraud in South Korea, the fact that the international election monitoring group's report on the June 3rd general election was delivered to Director Gabbard and that this information was reported to President Trump has generated expectations.

According to reports by South Korean media on the 5th (Korean time), a document that Kim Young-bae, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, revealed during a parliamentary audit became a topic of discussion. This document, sent by Cho Tae-yul, then Minister of Foreign Affairs, to Cho Hyun-dong, the Ambassador to the U.S., on December 5th of the previous year, contained instructions to explain to then President-elect Donald Trump and the White House the background for former President Yoon's declaration of martial law.

The document stated, "The National Assembly initiated impeachment motions against 22 government officials, intimidated judges, and paralyzed judicial functions by impeaching prosecutors," and conveyed the logic that Yoon's actions were a "political demonstration based on the conviction that President Yoon could no longer tolerate the situation, and that he took measures to declare and lift martial law in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution," asserting it as a lawful act of governance, as claimed by former President Yoon's camp. It further stated, "President Yoon maintains a stance of opposing pro-North Korean leftists and anti-Americanism based on his firm belief in liberal democracy and Christian values."

Specifically addressed to Trump's transition team, it read, "We will establish relations with the new U.S. administration based on this stance," and "President Yoon supports the philosophy of President-elect Trump regarding national governance, and has strived to operate the Republic of Korea based on his belief in liberal democracy and Christian values."

Kim Young-bae stated that the U.S. side had responded at the time, but did not disclose the contents of that response. He argued, "This is a strong basis to believe that a second rebellion was planned," adding, "Given that the Presidential Office and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent an official document to the U.S. government, even to the incoming administration, despite the National Assembly lifting martial law on December 4th, it clearly indicates an intention to continue the rebellion." He asserted that this should be subject to a special prosecutor's investigation.

The Democratic Party of Korea continues to push the narrative that martial law constitutes rebellion, but interpretations of the legal validity of this argument remain divided.

The conservative camp maintains that the claim that martial law, a presidential prerogative, is a rebellion is nonsensical. They also argue that former President Yoon explaining the necessity of martial law to Trump is merely evidence of its legitimacy.

Some have speculated that President Trump may take measures to allow former President Yoon and his wife to seek asylum in the United States.

Eugene Cho, a candidate for U.S. House of Representatives for Georgia's 1st congressional district, stated in an appearance on News & Post that there is a precedent where former President Ronald Reagan requested asylum for former President Kim Dae-jung, suggesting that President Trump might take similar action.
