President Donald Trump announced Wednesday that he had signed the bipartisan "Epstein Files" unsealing bill, using the moment to sharply criticize Democrats for their long-standing "deep" ties to the disgraced financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump emphasized that it was his Justice Department, not Democrats, that indicted Epstein in 2019 and alleged that the political left has spent years trying to evade scrutiny of their associations with the notorious donor.
"Jeffrey Epstein was a Democrat all his life," Trump wrote, noting that Epstein "gave thousands of dollars to Democrat politicians" and maintained close relationships with prominent party figures.
Trump directly named former President Bill Clinton, pointing out that Clinton "took his plane 26 times," as well as former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers, billionaire Democratic mega-donor Reid Hoffman, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) and Rep. Stacey Plaskett (D-VI).
Trump specifically mentioned Jeffries, claiming the Democratic leader "asked Epstein for campaign contributions after Epstein was indicted."
"Perhaps the truth about these Democrats and their relationship with Jeffrey Epstein will soon come out," Trump said, "because I just signed a bill to release the Epstein files."
The bill, which passed both chambers of Congress with overwhelming bipartisan support, requires the release of thousands of pages of official records related to Epstein, his associates and the government's past handling of investigations within 30 days.
Trump credited House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) for ensuring its swift passage, stating that both men acted at his request.
"The vote was almost unanimous because of this request," he wrote.
Trump also revealed that his Justice Department had already submitted "50,000 pages of Epstein related documents" to Congress for review under his administration, contrasting it sharply with the Biden administration, which he accused of hindering disclosure efforts.
"Do not forget that the Biden Administration has not released one file or page relating to the Democrat Epstein and has never mentioned him," Trump said.
The president contended that Democrats are attempting to weaponize the Epstein scandal to distract from the "tremendous victories" his movement has achieved.
