U.S. President Donald Trump reiterated on the 29th (local time) that the Supreme Court should rule his administration's tariff policy as legal.
On this day, President Trump wrote on his social media service (SNS) Truth Social, "Evil forces that hate America are fighting us in the U.S. Supreme Court. I pray to God that our nine justices will wisely do the right thing for America."
President Trump stated, "Tariffs have made our country rich, strong, powerful, and safe. All of this has been achieved thanks to strong leadership and tariffs. Without tariffs, we will once again become poor and a pathetic laughingstock."
Currently, the Supreme Court is reviewing the legality of various tariffs imposed by President Trump on countries around the world based on the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), and a ruling could be issued as early as the end of the year.
While the justices generally expressed a skeptical view on tariffs during oral arguments for the case on the 5th, Trump administration officials have expressed optimism for a decision favorable to the administration.
Nevertheless, President Trump and his officials have been creating a sense of crisis and pressuring the Supreme Court for a favorable ruling by warning that if the Supreme Court halts the tariff policy, trade agreements with other countries that have used tariffs as leverage will become void, causing great damage to the United States.
Meanwhile, in another Truth Social post on the same day, President Trump claimed that prescription drug prices in the U.S. have significantly decreased due to his policies, stating, "This is the solution for much cheaper and better healthcare."
He added, "Republicans, remember. We did this, not anyone else. If this story is told properly, we will win the midterm elections with a record number of votes."
Ahead of the midterm elections in November next year, which will determine control of the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate, President Trump has been actively promoting his administration's efforts to stabilize prices.
This is because high inflation has become a significant political burden for the Trump administration and the ruling Republican Party, as the Democratic Party's intense focus on inflation led to victories in key regions in the local elections held on the 4th.
President Trump has previously used tariffs as leverage to pressure pharmaceutical companies to lower the prices of drugs sold in the U.S. to the level of other developed countries, and has reached agreements to lower drug prices with some major pharmaceutical companies.
