People Power Party Floor Leader Song Eon-seok speaks at a Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly on the 1st. Yonhap News
People Power Party Floor Leader Song Eon-seok said on the 1st, regarding the parliamentary inquiry into the abandonment of the Daejang-dong appeal, "I will not be fixated on the condition of appointing the opposition party's floor leader in the Legislation and Judiciary Committee."
At the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly that day, Floor Leader Song stated, "We hope the Democratic Party will immediately accept the parliamentary inquiry, which can inform the public of the substantive truth, including the allegations of external pressure to abandon the Daejang-dong appeal and even what they call fabricated indictments."
Previously, the People Power Party had agreed to accept the parliamentary inquiry proposed by the Democratic Party at the level of the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee, but it set three conditions, including the appointment of Na Kyung-won as the opposition party's floor leader. However, as the Democratic Party refused to accept these conditions, an agreement has not been reached.
Regarding the warrant examination for former Floor Leader Chu Kyung-ho, who has been requested an arrest warrant on charges of 'engaging in important duties of rebellion,' Floor Leader Song mentioned, "Democratic Party leader Jung Cheong-rae said that if the arrest warrant is dismissed, the arrow will point towards the judiciary of Cho Hee-dae."
He then condemned Jung's actions, stating that he is "explicitly exerting pressure on the judiciary for a verdict" ahead of the warrant examination, and showing an "irresponsible attitude of perceiving it as a propaganda target with a rubber yardstick: 'If it's accepted, it's the People Power Party's responsibility, and if it's dismissed, it's the fault of Cho Hee-dae's judiciary.'"
At the meeting that day, Representative Jang Dong-hyuk also said, "Democratic Party leader Jung Cheong-rae directly threatened the judiciary regarding the arrest warrant examination for former Floor Leader Chu," adding, "I believe the judiciary will make a fair and just decision without being swayed by any external pressure."
Regarding the special court for rebellion that the Democratic Party is pushing for, he raised his voice, saying, "They are trying to select judges who fit the government's taste and conduct a people's court as they wish," and concluded, "The end of political revenge and dictatorship is self-destruction."
