Liberation University's National Foundation Day event, which paved the way for large-scale rallies. ⒸHankook Ilbo
The youth organization Liberation University will hold a commemorative event for the '1st Anniversary of Martial Law' on the first anniversary of its declaration. The event will take place near Gyeongbok Palace, featuring a march from Dongdaemun Station to Gwanghwamun Moondae, along with various experience and exhibition booths.
Liberation University pointed out that distorted perceptions of the martial law situation have spread throughout society since the declaration of emergency martial law, fueled by incitement to rebellion from the ruling party and the dissemination of various 'fake news.' The organization stated, "We prepared this event to correct the misinformation conveyed to the public and to ensure they accurately understand the actual situation at the time."
They further emphasized that the 'danger to the liberal democratic system,' cited by former President Yoon Suk-yeol as the reason for declaring martial law, is clearly evident in the policies and actions of the ruling party, such as President Lee Jae-myung's push for a trial suspension law, attempts to dismantle the Prosecutor's Office, censorship of public officials' mobile phones, expansion of the land transaction permit system, and efforts to abolish the National Security Act.
Liberation University explained that this trend can be seen as "signs of systemic subversion and collapse."
Regarding the procedural controversy surrounding the arrest warrant for members of the National Assembly, which has become a key issue in the 'rebellion trial,' they stated, "Recent trial proceedings have revealed that the measure was unilaterally carried out by Gwak Jong-geun and that former Prime Minister Han Duck-soo committed perjury." They added, "It has become clear that the emergency martial law at the time was declared in accordance with lawful procedures."
Liberation University explained the purpose of this event as "visually presenting the public's judgment on the legitimacy of the martial law and sharing correct perceptions."
The event will be held on the 6th, at Gwanghwamun Moondae, until 8 PM. The march will depart from Dongdaemun Station and continue from 1:30 PM to 4 PM.
Meanwhile, Liberation University held a large-scale event on last year's National Foundation Day (October 3rd) themed 'NEVER SURRENDER' and 'The Republic of Korea Belongs to Koreans,' attracting over 10,000 citizens and receiving strong support from young people. Speakers at that event included Hwang Kyo-ahn, leader of the Liberty and Innovation Party, Kim Min-soo, Supreme Council member of the People Power Party, and Baek Ji-won, former spokesperson.
