U.S. President Donald Trump announced on December 8 (local time) that he would unify regulations related to the artificial intelligence (AI) industry within the United States.

This move aims to standardize differing state regulations at the federal level, signaling an intention to maintain America's lead in the AI field by alleviating regulatory burdens on businesses.

President Trump stated through his social media platform, Truth Social, "For us to continue to lead in AI, we must have only one set of rules," adding, "This week, I will be issuing an executive order for 'One Rule'."

President Trump commented, "Right now, we are ahead of all other countries in this competition, but if 50 states are involved in (their own) rules and approval processes, that (competitive edge) will not last long."

He then referred to many of the 50 states as "bad actors," pointing out that some states are applying stringent regulations related to AI.

President Trump wrote, "There should be no doubt about this matter. (Otherwise,) AI will be destroyed in its infancy." He added, "Companies should not expect to have to get 50 approvals for whatever they want to do. That will never work."
