President Donald Trump announced on Monday an approximately $12 billion aid package for struggling American farmers, stating that his tariff policies have secured significant funds.
"Today, I'm announcing that the U.S. will be providing $12 billion in economic assistance to our farmers, using some of the hundreds of billions of dollars that we've taken in from China through tariffs," Trump stated.
Calling farmers the "backbone of our country," Trump said, "What we're doing is taking a relatively small portion of that and giving it to the farmers," expressing hope that this would stabilize commodity prices.
Trump finalized the plan during a roundtable meeting with his cabinet at the White House.
According to The Hill, $11 billion will be allocated to crop farmers through the "Farmer Bridge Assistance program," with the remaining $1 billion designated for other crops not covered by the program.

Trump announced the package alongside Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant and Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins at the White House event, which was attended by soybean, corn, rice, cattle, potato, sorghum, and cotton farmers.
In a statement released before the event, White House spokesperson Anna Kelly said, "Today’s announcement reflects the President’s commitment to providing farmers with the support they need to bridge the gap between the failures of Biden and the success of the president’s policies as they take effect."
According to the Pew Research Center, Trump secured 69% of the rural vote in 2024.
President Trump also announced the easing of environmental restrictions on companies that manufacture tractors and other heavy equipment used in agriculture.
To further support farmers, Trump announced in October that he had met with Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea, and China agreed to purchase soybeans, sorghum, and "other agricultural products."
"We're going to build this bridge because agriculture is about the future," Bessant said. "Things are going to be a lot better next year, so we have to start funding right now for the next planting season."
