The police have commenced a full-scale investigation into the so-called "former party leader Han Dong-hoon's family bulletin board controversy," which was raised by the People Power Party's Internal Audit Committee.
The suspicions that have been raised both inside and outside the party have now led to criminal proceedings, bringing renewed attention to the essence of the case and the issue of political responsibility for Han Dong-hoon's political career.
The Yeongdeungpo Police Station in Seoul is scheduled to conduct an investigation of the complainant on the 24th regarding the complaint filed against Lee Ho-sun, the chairman of the People Power Party's Internal Audit Committee. This investigation is to examine the issues raised concerning the circumstances under which some party member information was disclosed during the Internal Audit Committee's process of verifying the bulletin board controversy.
However, it is argued that the core of this matter is not a mere procedural dispute, but the "allegation of bulletin board activity using an account under the name of former party leader Han Dong-hoon's family" itself, which served as the starting point of the incident.
The allegations claim that posts criticizing former President Yoon Suk-yeol and his wife were posted on the party member bulletin board, serving as the decisive trigger for internal conflict.
While the pro-Han faction strongly opposes this, there is a consensus among party members that since the issue occurred in the party's official communication space, the party member bulletin board, the investigation's key focus will inevitably be on the responsibility and judgment of a political leader, beyond that of an individual.
Some have pointed out, "The situation has escalated because of an attempt to evade political responsibility for the issue of accounts registered under family names," and "What is needed now is not political contention, but a clear clarification of the facts."
