The Committee for the Welfare of the Common People (Seomin Committee, Secretary-General Kim Soon-hwan) filed a complaint with the police on the 16th against Democratic Party lawmakers and high-ranking officials from the Presidential Office, citing allegations of judicial pressure and interference in trials.
On the afternoon of the 16th, the Seomin Committee filed a complaint with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency against Democratic Party lawmakers Jeon Hyun-hee and Kim Yong-min, and Presidential Secretary for the First Civil Affairs Office Kim Hyun-ji, on charges of abuse of power, insurrection, and incitement to insurrection.
In its complaint, the Seomin Committee stated regarding Rep. Jeon Hyun-hee: "She defined the judiciary under Chief Justice Jo Hee-dae as a 'group protecting insurrectionary forces' and advocated for the establishment of a special court for insurrection. Furthermore, by pushing for △abolition of the Court Administration Office, △establishment of a judicial administration committee with democratic legitimacy, and △substantive disciplinary action against corrupt judges to date, she has committed abuse of power, insurrection, and defamation of judicial officials and judges."
Regarding Rep. Kim Yong-min, the committee explained: "As the ruling party's representative on the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee, he justified the processing of bills such as the establishment of a special court for insurrection (the Act on the Establishment of a Special Court for Investigating the Truth of State Affairs Mismanagement by Yoon Suk-yeol and Kim Keon-hee) and the creation of a crime of distorting the law, despite concerns of unconstitutionality such as 'infringement of the separation of powers.' This constitutes undue political pressure on the judiciary and abuse of power."
Furthermore, regarding President Lee and First Civil Affairs Secretary Kim Hyun-ji, the committee stated: "Despite being involved in 12 cases and 5 trials (election law violations, the Daejang-dong case, etc.) as a 'community of shared destiny' with individuals such as the former Seongnam Mayor, the Governor of Gyeonggi Province, Democratic Party lawmakers, party leader, and presidential candidate, they have pressured and incited Democratic Party lawmakers to cover up the criminal facts."
Additionally, the committee claimed: "Consequently, Democratic Party lawmakers, too concerned with pleasing the Presidential Office over the law, principles, and the people, have become engrossed in processing bills such as the 'establishment of a special court for insurrection (the Act on the Establishment of a Special Court for Investigating the Truth of State Affairs Mismanagement by Yoon Suk-yeol and Kim Keon-hee) and the crime of distorting the law (amendment to the Criminal Act),' neglecting the welfare of the people. Moreover, they have abused their authority by repeatedly issuing directives in State Council meetings to dissolve religious foundations targeting specific religions (such as the Unification Church) (Article 20 ① Freedom of Religion), thereby disregarding the Constitution, the foundation of the rule of law, and deceiving the public. This constitutes abuse of power and incitement to insurrection."
