Song Sung-moon (29), who challenged himself to play in the U.S., has officially joined the San Diego Padres.
The San Diego Padres of Major League Baseball (MLB) announced on their club's official website on the 23rd (Korean time) that they have signed a four-year contract with KBO League star Song Sung-moon.
While the San Diego club did not disclose the details of the contract, including the amount, AP reported on the 22nd that Song Sung-moon's contract was worth $15 million (approximately 22.2 billion won).
Song Sung-moon, who played for the Kiwoom Heroes in the KBO League through the 2025 season, will now play in the "Big Leagues" in a San Diego uniform for the 2026 season.
Song Sung-moon, who posted a batting average of 0.315, 26 home runs, 25 stolen bases, and 90 RBIs in the 2025 season, entered the posting process last month and has been negotiating with all 30 MLB teams for 30 days.
The deadline for posting was 7:00 AM Korean time on the 22nd, and San Diego and Song Sung-moon finalized their contract before the deadline and officially announced the details on this day.
Song Sung-moon is the 10th KBO League player to enter the U.S. stage through the posting process, following Choi Hyang-nam in 2009, Ryu Hyun-jin in 2012, Kang Jung-ho in 2014, Park Byung-ho in 2015, Kim Kwang-hyun in 2020, Kim Ha-seong in 2021, Lee Jung-hoo in 2023, Go Woo-seok in 2024, and Kim Hye-seong in 2025. Among these, all position players are from the Heroes.
Song Sung-moon, who departed for the U.S. on the 19th to finalize negotiations with San Diego, will return to Korea on the morning of the 23rd.
