On the 1st (local time), Russia continued its claim that President Vladimir Putin's residence was targeted in a drone attack by the Ukrainian military.
According to RIA Novosti, the Russian Ministry of Defense said in a statement, "Russian special services extracted flight plan files from the navigation system of a Ukrainian drone that was shot down over the Novgorod region on the night of December 29th."
The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that after deciphering the data stored in these files, it was determined that the drone's final target was a facility at President Putin's residence, and added, "We will deliver this information to the U.S. side through existing channels."
The previous day, the Russian Ministry of Defense released a video showing the debris of a Ukrainian Shakhed drone shot down in a forest by a Russian soldier, and a detailed map of the drone's route.
It also claimed that the drone was loaded with approximately 6 kg of explosives but did not detonate, and that a total of 91 drones were launched from border areas such as Chernihiv and Sumy in Ukraine, heading towards Putin's residence in Novgorod.
In response, Georgiy Tyshchenko, spokesperson for the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told Reuters about the video, "It's ridiculous," and added, "Ukraine is absolutely convinced that no such attacks took place."
U.S. security officials have also concluded that Ukraine did not target Russian President Putin or his residence with drone attacks, the U.S. daily Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported.
