U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday (local time) that he is in negotiations with Europe to secure "total access" to Greenland.

President Trump made these remarks in an interview with Fox Business at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland.

President Trump stated, "The details are being negotiated right now, but it's essentially total access (to Greenland)," adding, "There's no end to it, and no time limit."

He continued, "We're not talking about a contract for 99 years or 10 years," explaining, "Because countries go on much longer."

When asked about the cost of the U.S. obtaining "permanent and total access" to Greenland, President Trump replied, "I'm not going to have to pay anything."

He added, "We will have all the military access we need," and "We will be able to put what we need in Greenland."

He emphasized, "We're talking about national security and international security," and "So we won't have to pay anything, other than the fact that we're building the 'Golden Dome'."

This is interpreted to mean that the U.S. is negotiating to deploy military facilities, including facilities related to the Golden Dome, the next-generation air defense system, in Greenland, without paying any cost for this access.

President Trump explained, "The Golden Dome will be something amazing. It will probably be about 100 times the size of Israel's (Iron Dome)," adding, "It will all be made in America."

President Trump reiterated the need for the Golden Dome, stating, "Everything comes over Greenland. When 'bad guys' start shooting, it comes over Greenland."

President Trump said, "It (the Golden Dome) is incredibly amazing," and "Ronald Reagan had this idea a long time ago, but at the time there was no technology. Now we have incredible technology."

President Trump reported that the negotiations with Europe regarding Greenland are "being reviewed very favorably," and stated, "We saw the stock market go up quite a bit after we announced this."

In his special address at the WEF the previous day, President Trump stated that "no country other than the United States is in a position to safely protect Greenland," while also announcing that he is pursuing "immediate negotiations to discuss the matter of re-acquiring Greenland" and that he "will not use force."

He then posted on the social media platform Truth Social, introducing that "Based on a very productive meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, we have created a framework for future agreements regarding Greenland and essentially the entire Arctic region."

It is being discussed that the "total access" to Greenland mentioned by President Trump could be the core of the "framework for future agreements" established by the U.S. and NATO.

NATO spokesperson Alison Hart told Fox that the negotiations aim to "ensure that Russia and China never gain a foothold" in Greenland.

Attention is being paid to whether President Trump, who is mentioning "permanent and total access" to Greenland without cost, is trying to pivot from his past attempts to acquire Greenlandic sovereignty, which have caused significant controversy.

The previous day, President Trump, while speaking at the Davos Forum, ruled out "military options" regarding Greenland but reiterated his determination to acquire sovereignty over Greenland, even referring to Greenland as "our territory."
