Roh Hee-seop, active as a vocalist and conductor, is embarking on a new path to broaden his reach beyond classical music to the general public. [Photo=Hanmi Ilbo]
Roh Hee-seop, active as a vocalist and conductor, is embarking on a new path to broaden his reach beyond classical music to the general public.
Roh Hee-seop stated, "Classical music is not a genre that should remain confined to the stage; it is an art form that should reach out to people. I want to connect with more people through activities that encompass trot, popular music, and K-pop, all based on classical music."
He has been called the 'street vocalist' for lowering the barrier to classical music through busking performances outside of concert halls. His performance philosophy, which prioritizes connection with people over a perfect stage environment, has been recognized for delivering new emotions to those who found classical music daunting.
Recently, he also plans to actively engage in broadcast activities. Not content to remain within the confines of a classical vocalist, Roh Hee-seop is preparing to appear in music entertainment and educational programs by integrating various genres such as trot, popular music, and K-POP.
Through this, he aims to demonstrate that classical music can be a language of empathy that bridges generations, rather than a privilege exclusive to a certain class.
Particularly noteworthy is his recent musical activity with his daughter. Roh Hee-seop performs on stage with his daughter at concerts and events, showcasing a natural connection between family and generations through music.
He remarked, "Music is an experience shared before it is education. The moment I stand on the same stage as my daughter, I am reminded again that classical music is the most artful form of everyday life."
Furthermore, he plans to hold 'Visiting Filial Piety Concerts' with Shelter Park Golf.
This project is a cultural sharing event that directly visits local communities and the senior generation to offer comfort and joy through music. It is gaining attention as a new form of social contribution program that combines park golf culture with performing arts.
Roh Hee-seop said, "More important than the amount of applause is the fact that there are people present. If music can bring a little warmth to someone's day, that is why I sing."
Expectations are high for the new resonance that vocalist Roh Hee-seop's endeavors, breaking down the boundaries of classical music and connecting generations, genres, families, and the public, will bring to the music and broadcasting industries.
