The U.S. military has sunk three more "suspected drug trafficking vessels" in Central and South American waters, resulting in 11 deaths.
The U.S. Southern Command stated on the 17th (local time) via its X (formerly Twitter) account that it "conducted lethal strikes against three vessels operated by designated terrorist organizations."
The attack was carried out the previous night by a joint task force executing the U.S. military's ongoing series of attacks on drug trafficking vessels in Central and South America, codenamed 'Southern Spear,' which began in September of last year.
According to Southern Command, four people died in the first attack in the Eastern Pacific, another four in the second attack, and three in the third attack in the Caribbean Sea.
Southern Command claimed, "Intelligence confirmed that the vessels were traveling along known drug trafficking routes and were involved in drug trafficking operations."
The command also released a video showing a vessel engulfed in flames and exploding while at sea, adding, "There were no U.S. military casualties."
U.S. military attacks on suspected drug trafficking vessels have occurred 42 times to date, with estimated casualties exceeding 144.
