White House spokesperson Rabit briefing [EPA=Yonhap News]
The White House announced on the 10th (local time) that the military operation against Iran would end when President Donald Trump determines that the military objectives have been fully achieved.
At a briefing on the same day, White House spokesperson Caroline Rabit stated regarding the end of the military operation against Iran, "Ultimately, the operation will end when the Commander-in-Chief (President Trump) determines that the military objectives have been fully achieved, and when Iran has reached a state of complete and unconditional surrender, regardless of whether they declare it or not."
This suggests that an explicit declaration of surrender from Iran will not be a prerequisite for ending the conflict.
This implies that the US will cease hostilities if it determines its objectives have been met, even if Iran continues to resist without surrendering. This is interpreted as support for President Trump's previously stated intention to end the war early.
Indeed, when asked if President Trump still desires Iran's "unconditional surrender," Rabit replied, "When the President says Iran is in a position to unconditionally surrender, he is not claiming that the Iranian regime will declare it so."
She added, "What the President means is that Iran's threats will no longer be supported by its ballistic missile capabilities that underpin its pursuit of nuclear weapons," emphasizing, "It can make empty threats, but if there is no action to back them up, they are just empty threats."
She further explained, "President Trump will determine when Iran has reached a state of unconditional surrender when Iran no longer poses a credible direct threat to the United States and its allies."
Regarding the possibility of deploying US ground troops, she reiterated the existing stance, stating, "As Commander-in-Chief, the President does not rule out any options."
Regarding the military operation against Iran, which is in its eleventh day, Rabit said, "We are winning this important battle at a much faster pace than anticipated." She added, "Since the start of the operation, Iran's ballistic missile attacks have decreased by more than 90%, and drone attacks have been reduced by about 85%."
In relation to international oil prices, she stated, "The President and his energy team are closely monitoring the markets and consulting with industry leaders, and the US military is preparing additional response options to keep the Strait of Hormuz open as per the President's directives." She added, "While we will not disclose specific details, the President will not hesitate to use them."
She also stated that the recent rise in oil prices is a "temporary" phenomenon and that the operation will lead to "lower oil prices in the long term."
Regarding the potential for further oil sanctions relief for countries like Russia to defend oil prices, she said, "There are no new sanctions relief announcements to make today," and that administration officials are in discussions.
Meanwhile, Rabit addressed why Colombia was not invited to the "Shield of the Americas" conference, hosted by the US on the 7th to discuss counter-cartel measures with Latin American countries, stating, "The Colombian government has not yet shown the level of cooperation we desire to be invited to the event."
