The Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), the largest conservative conference in the United States, has adopted a resolution explicitly mentioning South Korea.
CPAC specifically mentioned South Korea in its statement, "Fighting the Resurgence of Communism, Democratic Backsliding, and Legal Offensives Against Free Societies," delivered during the International Session on the first day of its annual meeting on Wednesday, February 25th.
The full text of the resolution, authored and read by attorney Gordon Chang, a distinguished CPAC board member and renowned expert on Northeast Asia, is as follows:
We are witnessing a dangerous resurgence of communist ideology, totalitarian and authoritarian rule, and the weaponization of judicial systems to silence political opposition.
From the increasing overseas aggression of the Chinese Communist Party to the suppression of dissidents in countries influenced by socialist or authoritarian models, the erosion of democracy, censorship, politically motivated persecution, legal battles, and increasingly, actions used to neutralize opposition leaders, manipulate election outcomes, and weaken constitutional institutions from within, freedom itself is under organized attack.
CPAC expresses particular concern for frontline democracies like South Korea, Taiwan, and other nations in the Indo-Pacific region that are under persistent pressure from communist regimes and their proxies.
South Korea's security and democratic resilience are critically important not only for its own people but for the stability of the entire region. We stand with all democratic societies worldwide that are working to safeguard their democratic institutions against intimidation and political polarization fueled by external forces, and against attempts to undermine them through disinformation, economic coercion, and the abuse of judicial power.
We are seeing a pattern: elected leaders are not defeated in fair elections but are instead investigated, censored, or removed through politicized legal processes.
Independent media are suppressed under the guise of regulation, and civil society suffers from bureaucratic oppression. These tactics mirror those long employed by authoritarian regimes to maintain power while preserving a veneer of legitimacy.
CPAC urges President Trump, allied governments, and freedom-loving citizens worldwide to confront these threats with a clear and resolute stance.
This includes strengthening defense cooperation between democratic nations, imposing sanctions on regimes that export oppression, supporting dissidents and political prisoners, and upholding the principles of freedom of expression, the rule of law, and national sovereignty.
The fight against communism did not end with the Cold War; it has merely evolved into new forms, requiring renewed vigilance.

The resolution was adopted unanimously by acclamation by the CPAC board and attendees.
Meanwhile, Matt Schlapp, Chairman of CPAC, pointed out that "politicians are turning into a 'legal death match' where if they lose in any way, they lose not only their political position but also their freedom, as seen in the imprisonment of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro and South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol."
Following his remarks, CPAC issued a resolution condemning "the weaponization of legal means in Brazil and the unprecedented refusal by U.S. diplomats to visit President Jair Bolsonaro."
Resolutions were also adopted strongly condemning Sharia law and its growing influence in the United States and around the world, condemning the persecution of Christians and anti-Semitism, and strongly supporting a nationwide mandatory voter identification law to ensure election fairness and strengthen American democracy.
This year's CPAC conference will continue until Saturday, February 28th, at the Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center in Grapevine, Texas.
