Officials stated on Wednesday (8th) that Israel supports the two-week ceasefire agreement with Iran brokered by the United States, but has made it clear that the truce does not apply to its conflict with Hezbollah in neighboring Lebanon.
In a statement, the Prime Minister's Office of Israel announced that Israel supports U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to halt attacks against Iran for two weeks, provided that Iran reopens key maritime routes and ceases attacks against the United States, Israel, and other countries in the region.
However, the statement emphasized, "The two-week ceasefire does not include Lebanon," presenting a position that directly contradicts earlier remarks by mediator Pakistan, which had suggested the truce would also apply to the Lebanese front.
The Israeli military confirmed this distinction, stating that while operations against Iran have been suspended, combat operations against Hezbollah, a terror group supported by Iran in Lebanon, will continue.
In a statement, the Israel Defense Forces said, "Following directives from the political leadership, we have ceased operations against Iran and are prepared to respond defensively to any violations." They also added that they conducted a final night raid targeting Iran's "launch capabilities" and infrastructure before the ceasefire took effect.

Concurrently, the Israeli military continues its activities in Lebanon. The statement said, "In Lebanon, the Israel Defense Forces continue to conduct targeted ground operations against the Hezbollah terrorist organization."
Israel has repeatedly carried out airstrikes on what it claims to be Hezbollah positions and has deployed ground troops in southern Lebanon to secure the northern border area.
Hezbollah has engaged in periodic attacks against Israel, including retaliatory strikes following a joint U.S.-Israeli operation against Iran on February 28th, which triggered the current conflict.
The fighting in Lebanon has been intense, with reports of over 1,500 fatalities, highlighting the risk of a wider regional conflict escalating despite the temporary halt in direct hostilities between Israel and Iran.
Newsmax observed that the conflicting statements from mediators and Israeli officials indicate that uncertainty still exists regarding the scope of the ceasefire and its potential to prevent the spread of violence beyond the Israel-Iran front.
The opposition in Israel criticized the agreement as a "diplomatic disaster unprecedented in history," claiming Prime Minister Netanyahu was excluded from the ceasefire negotiation process.
However, Israel stated that it has received confirmation from the U.S. side that critical demands such as the dismantling of Iran's nuclear program, an end to ballistic missile threats, and a cessation of support for terrorism must be met in future negotiations.
Meanwhile, pro-Iranian militias in Iraq announced on Wednesday that they would suspend attacks on "enemy bases" in the region for two weeks, coinciding with the start of the ceasefire agreement between the U.S. and Iran.
Subsequently, Iraq reopened its airspace, which had been closed due to the war, according to state news agencies.
Conversely, Hezbollah has not yet issued an official statement regarding these developments.
