President Donald Trump criticized the Iranian regime on Friday, stating that it is "better at dealing with fake news media and 'Public Relations' than fighting."
He made this remark on Truth Social after stating in an interview with the New York Post, "We are dealing with people that we don't know if they are telling us the truth or not."
In an interview with the New York Post on Friday, he revealed that he was resupplying U.S. Navy ships with "the best ammunition" to resume attacks on Iran if peace talks in Pakistan failed.
On Thursday night, President Trump accused Iran of doing "a very poor job" by allowing oil to be shipped through the Strait of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf.
The United States and Iran agreed to a two-week ceasefire on Tuesday, conditional on Iran reopening the Strait of Hormuz. This strait is a crucial maritime route through which approximately 20% of the world's oil passed before the conflict erupted in February.
President Trump posted on Truth Social, "Iran is doing a very poor job, and some would say a despicable job, of allowing oil to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. That's not the deal we made!"
In another Truth Social post, the President warned Iran not to charge tankers passing through the strait, stating, "It would be best to stop immediately!" if they were to impose such fees as reported.
The Strait of Hormuz, which saw an average of 130-140 vessels passing through per day in 2024-2025 before the Iran conflict began, has significantly decreased since the launch of Operation Epic Fury due to Iran's blockade announcement.
Recent daily figures show 15 vessels passing through on April 4th, 12 vessels on the 5th and 6th, 11 vessels on the 7th, 5 vessels on the 8th when the ceasefire was announced, 7 vessels on the 9th, and 6 vessels (estimated) on the 10th passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran has reportedly stated that it will limit vessel traffic to 10-15 ships per day during the two-week ceasefire period, but the actual number of vessels passing through appears to be below this figure.
The international community is protesting, arguing that it is illegal under international law for Iran to claim sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz and demand transit fees or permits.
Negotiations for a ceasefire between the United States and Iran are scheduled for Saturday. Many aspects remain uncertain, from whether these negotiations will proceed as planned to what outcomes they might yield.
