'US-Iran ceasefire talks' held at Pakistan's Serena Hotel [Islamabad=Yonhap News]

An overnight marathon ceasefire negotiation between the United States and Iran in Islamabad, Pakistan, concluded early on the 12th (local time).

While the US has not yet released an official statement, the Iranian government has indicated its intention to continue negotiations, despite differences in positions with the US.

The Iranian government stated via X (formerly Twitter) that "the talks between the US and Iran, held under Pakistan's mediation, concluded after 14 hours," and added, "Working teams from both sides are currently exchanging expert documents."

It continued, "Although some disagreements remain, negotiations will continue."

Both sides are reportedly at odds over issues such as the opening of the Strait of Hormuz and a ceasefire in Lebanon, where Israel is continuing its attacks.

Iranian state media, citing its own reporters, reported that both sides are scheduled to resume negotiations on the 12th.

Iranian local media also reported on the conclusion of the bilateral talks, noting that there were some serious differences of opinion between the two sides.

According to Reuters and other news outlets, the US and Iran began their negotiations around 5:30 PM local time the previous day and concluded three rounds of talks, including interim breaks, around 3 AM on the 12th.

The US and Iran, after a sudden agreement on a two-week ceasefire on the 8th, began trilateral face-to-face negotiations in Islamabad, Pakistan, with Pakistan in attendance, starting the previous day.

The US dispatched a negotiation team led by Vice President JD Vance, while Iran was led by Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of the Iranian Parliament.

Amidst the ongoing negotiations, the US Central Command announced that "preparations to clear mines in the Strait of Hormuz have begun," and that two US Navy guided-missile destroyers had passed through the Strait of Hormuz.

In response, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) warned that "warships attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz will face a strong response," escalating tensions between the two sides.
