President Donald Trump suggested Friday that a dispute between the U.S. and Iran could soon come to an end, saying Iran "agreed to everything," including the disposal of enriched uranium.
According to CBS News, the president stated that the deal would not require an increase in U.S. ground troops and that Iran and the U.S. would cooperate to remove Iran's enriched uranium and bring it to the U.S.
"We're not sending troops in," Trump said. "We'll go over and secure it with them, and then we'll take it out. And by the time we do that, we'll have a deal, and when we have a deal, we don't have to fight, so we'll solve it together. Isn't that nice? That’s much better. If we had to, we would have done it another way."
President Trump also said that Iran has agreed to cease its support for proxy terrorist groups like Hezbollah and Hamas.
The president did not state when an official peace accord would be announced, but he said that the U.S. and Iran would meet this weekend to finalize the terms of the agreement.
Axios reported that the Trump administration was discussing releasing $20 billion in frozen Iranian assets in exchange for Iran's nuclear weapons stockpile, but President Trump denied this, stating, "No, we are not paying a dime," CBS reported.
The news came after he posted on Truth Social that U.S. troops would "take all the nuclear debris" and that Iran had fully opened the Strait of Hormuz.
President Trump posted on Truth Social at 9:06 AM EST, "Iran just announced that the Strait of Hormuz is open and that maritime passage is fully available. Thank you!"
He continued, "The Strait of Hormuz is fully open and available for passage, but the maritime blockade of Iran will be fully maintained until the negotiations with Iran are 100% complete. The process will be very swift, as most of the negotiations have already been agreed upon."
He wrote on another Truth, "The United States will take all of the nuclear “debris” that our great B-2 Bombers have created, and there will be no financial transactions of any kind. This agreement has nothing to do with Lebanon, but the United States will separately work with Lebanon to properly handle the Hezbollah issue. Israel will no longer bomb Lebanon. The United States has forbidden Israel from doing so. Stop it now!!!"
He also wrote, "As the Strait of Hormuz situation was resolved, I received calls asking if NATO needed to be involved. I told them not to come with ships loaded with oil. They were useless paper tigers when they were really needed!"
In another Truth, President Trump expressed gratitude for the "courage and help" of Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Qatar, and then stated, "Iran, with the help of the United States, has removed or is in the process of removing mines."
"Again, this has nothing to do with Lebanon, but anyway, we will make Lebanon great again!" he wrote. He also expressed his thanks to the Prime Minister and Minister of Defense of Pakistan, calling them "Fantastic people!!!"
In another Truth, President Trump expressed joy, stating, "A great and glorious day for the world!" and added, "Iran has agreed never to close the Strait of Hormuz again. The Strait of Hormuz will no longer be used as a weapon against the world!"
