U.S. President Donald Trump said in a phone interview with CNBC on the morning of the 21st (local time) that he believes "we will eventually reach a good agreement" ahead of the planned talks with Iran in Pakistan.
The interview came as Iran threatened on social media Monday evening to "reveal new cards."
President Trump said, "I don't think they have any choice. We've neutralized their navy, we've neutralized their air force. Frankly, we've eliminated their leaders too. Of course, that complicates things. But our leaders are much more rational. Whatever you call it, it's regime change. I didn't say I would do it, but indirectly I may have, and ultimately, we've done it."
Regarding the Iranian regime, President Trump stated, "I think we are in a very strong negotiating position to do what other presidents should have done over the last 47 years. For 47 years, these bloodthirsty people have killed countless soldiers, our soldiers, and many others."
In his interview with CNBC, President Trump said, "The blockade has been a tremendous success. They said two days ago, 'We will open the strait.' I said, 'We will not open the strait until a final agreement is reached.'"
He added, "We have complete control of the strait. Don't be fooled by all the fake news."
Meanwhile, a delegation led by Vice President JD Vance is expected to arrive in Pakistan today for a second round of negotiations. The ceasefire with Iran, announced on April 8, is set to expire on Wednesday, the 22nd.
