President Donald Trump announced on his Truth Social platform on Wednesday that he might be a distant relative of King Charles III, stating, "Wow, so cool. I always wanted to live in Buckingham Palace!!!"

Sharing an article from the Daily Mail, he added, "I will tell the King and Queen this in a few minutes!!!"

According to the Daily Mail report, the common ancestor of President Trump and King Charles III is John Stuart III, Earl of Lennox, a Scottish nobleman born in 1490 and who lived until 1526. He was a great-grandson of King James II of Scotland.

If the report is true, President Trump and King Charles III are 15th cousins.

The White House posted a photo on X (formerly Twitter) of the King and the President smiling broadly, with the caption "Two Kings."

The Daily Mail reported that President Trump may be connected by blood to the British royal family through his mother, Mary Anne MacLeod, who emigrated from Scotland to New York.

According to the BBC, MacLeod emigrated from Lewis, Scotland, to the United States in 1930. Six years later, she married Frederick Trump, a real estate developer of German immigrant descent. They had five children, the fourth being Donald.

News of the distant familial connection between the two leaders emerged on the second day of King Charles's state visit to the United States, his first official visit to the U.S. since his accession to the throne in 2022.

The four-day itinerary, including two days in Washington D.C., commemorates the 250th anniversary of American independence from Britain and aims to highlight the "shared prosperity, security, and history" of the two nations, according to the UK Foreign Office.

Prince Charles is scheduled to address both houses of Congress on Tuesday, followed by a state banquet at the White House with Queen Camilla. The royal couple plans to visit New York and Virginia during their final two days.
