National Assembly Special Committee Site [Yonhap News]The People Power Party claimed on the 29th that the National Assembly's 'Special Committee for Truth Finding on the Allegations of Forged Indictments by the Yoon Suk-yeol Administration's Political Prosecutors,' whose activities are nearing their end, "could not find even a shred of physical evidence for the 'forgery' that the Democratic Party had so much confidence in. Instead, it only reaffirmed the reality of 'payment for North Korea visit expenses' as the essence of the case through the testimonies of witnesses."
In a commentary, Chief Spokesperson Park Seong-hoon stated, "The parliamentary investigation, which attempted to cover up the sins of President Lee Jae-myung by wasting taxpayers' money, has ultimately concluded by revealing only its ugly true colors. It was a 'waterless parliamentary investigation' that failed to present any evidence or substance," thus criticizing the committee.
He pointed out, "The 'salmon and alcohol party allegations,' which the Democratic Party so vehemently emphasized, have been revealed as fiction due to the strong denial from the party concerned, former Ssangbangwool Chairman Kim Seong-tae." He added, "The witness's stern remark, consistently stating, 'I never drank alcohol. Please stop talking about food now,' clearly showed how flimsy the pretext the Democratic Party was clinging to was."
He further stated, "Former Ssangbangwool Vice Chairman Bang Yong-chul once again clarified that he met Ri Ho-nam, a (North Korean espionage agent), in (the Philippines) at the risk of punishment for perjury, and that the money was the payment for then-Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung's visit to North Korea."
Chief Spokesperson Park commented, "Despite the parliamentary investigation's virtual failure, the Democratic Party, instead of apologizing, is once again treating the introduction of a special prosecutor as a foregone conclusion, stirring up further repercussions." He advised, "Rather than wasting national power with baseless special prosecutor offensives, it is the natural course to calmly await the solemn judgment of the judiciary."
