Ahead of the summit between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping scheduled for next month, the top diplomats and trade officials of both countries have engaged in a series of phone calls.

According to China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the 30th, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi spoke with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio by phone on this day.

Minister Wang stated, "Head of state diplomacy has always been the compass for China-US relations, and under the strategic leadership of President Xi and President Trump, China-US relations have maintained overall stability." He added, "This aligns with the fundamental interests of the people of both countries and the universal expectations of the international community."

He emphasized, "Both countries must safeguard the hard-won stability and meticulously prepare for important high-level exchange agendas. We should expand areas of cooperation and manage differences, seeking to build China-US relations that are strategic, constructive, and stable, realizing mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation."

Minister Wang further stressed, "The Taiwan issue is at the core of China's interests and the greatest risk in China-US relations. The United States should uphold its commitments and make the right decisions, thereby opening new space for China-US cooperation and making the efforts it ought to for world peace."

China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained that Secretary Rubio commented, "US-China relations are the most important bilateral relations in the world, and head of state diplomacy is the core of US-China relations. Both countries must maintain communication and cooperation, appropriately handle mutual respect and differences, accumulate achievements for high-level US-China exchanges, and seek strategic stability in US-China relations."

Additionally, the two sides exchanged views on the Middle East situation and other issues, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.

The calls between the foreign ministers of both countries took place ahead of President Trump's visit to China and the US-China summit scheduled for the 14th-15th of this month.

The two countries also held a video conference between high-level representatives for trade negotiations on this day.

According to China Central Television (CCTV), Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng spoke via video conference with US Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessant and US Trade Representative (USTR) Representative Jamie D. Gorelick on the evening of this day.

CCTV explained, "Both sides engaged in candid, in-depth, and constructive exchanges focusing on the proper implementation of the important common understandings reached at the summit between the leaders of China and the US (in Busan last October) and previous calls, as well as the more appropriate resolution of economic and trade issues of mutual concern and the expansion of practical cooperation."

It further stated, "China has expressed grave concerns regarding recent US economic and trade restrictive measures against China."

The US House of Representatives recently passed and advanced several new export control measures to prevent China's access to advanced technology and semiconductor manufacturing equipment. On the 28th, the Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) issued a warning prohibiting transactions with a small private refinery in Shandong Province, China, that purchases Iranian crude oil, continuing its pressure on China.

CCTV added, "Both sides expressed their shared commitment to continue leveraging the role of the China-US economic and trade negotiation mechanism, constantly enhancing common understandings, managing differences, and strengthening cooperation, thereby promoting the healthy, stable, and sustainable development of China-US economic and trade relations."
