U.S. President Donald Trump [AP/Yonhap News]
The U.S. military briefed President Donald Trump on new military operation plans against Iran. Tensions are once again escalating, with the deployment of advanced weapon systems to the Middle East reportedly under consideration.
According to Israel's N12 television on the 1st (local time), two high-ranking U.S. officials revealed that Gen. Brad Cooper, commander of U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), which oversees U.S. military operations in the Middle East, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dan Caine briefed President Trump on operational plans for Iran for 45 minutes on the 30th of last month (Eastern Time).
N12 pointed out that President Trump received a similar briefing on February 26th, two days before the U.S. and Israel launched a surprise airstrike against Iran, and that this influenced his decision to initiate war.
The report elaborated, "This suggests that President Trump is seriously considering resuming hostile actions to break the stalemate in negotiations with Iran or to deliver a final blow before the end of the conflict."
Multiple sources indicated that the U.S. Central Command has prepared a plan for a short-term, powerful airstrike against Iran, likely focusing on key infrastructure.
Another source mentioned that a plan to seize part of the Strait of Hormuz to resume navigation for merchant ships and oil tankers might have also been presented to President Trump, which could involve the deployment of ground troops.
N12 added that operations by U.S. special forces to seize Iran's enriched uranium stockpile are also among the options.
These U.S. military movements are drawing attention in conjunction with recent observations that the U.S. is considering deploying its latest missiles to the Middle East to strike deep into Iran.
Bloomberg News reported, citing anonymous officials, that U.S. Central Command has requested the deployment of the long-range hypersonic weapon (LRHW) "Dark Eagle" to the Middle East, capable of directly targeting Iranian ballistic missile launchers.
The Dark Eagle is developed to glide at speeds of more than five times the speed of sound and can perform evasive maneuvers against air defense missile interception, but it has not yet been deployed in combat.
