U.S. President Donald Trump reiterated on the 29th (local time) that he carried out his first ground military operation in Venezuela since taking office in January.
Speaking to reporters while greeting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who visited his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, on the same day, President Trump said, "There was a big explosion in a pier area where (Venezuelan) drugs were being loaded onto boats."
He added, "We hit all the boats (attempting to transport drugs to the U.S.) and we hit that area. That's where they execute (drug loading), and it's no longer there."
This appears to mean that following the sinking of ships suspected of transporting drugs in the Caribbean Sea and the eastern Pacific Ocean since around September, the bases of these problematic ships have been struck.
Previously, President Trump stated in a radio interview recorded around September and aired the previous day, "We eliminated a large facility where ships depart from two days ago," and it seems he brought this up again today.
Ultimately, he reaffirmed that a military operation was carried out against ground facilities in Venezuela.
When asked by reporters whether the U.S. military or another agency like the CIA carried out the operation, President Trump said, "I know exactly who did it, but I don't want to say," adding, "but it took place along the coast."
President Trump also pointed out that numerous illegal immigrants with criminal backgrounds from Venezuela have entered the U.S., and drug and terrorist organizations based in that country, such as 'Tren de Aragua,' have been introducing large quantities of drugs.
He further emphasized the justification for the operation to sink ships suspected of drug smuggling from Venezuela, stating, "Every ship we eliminate saves the lives of 25,000 Americans."
