According to an affidavit unsealed on December 10 (local time), the FBI obtained a warrant to seize hundreds of ballot boxes from the Fulton County, Georgia, election management center as part of a criminal investigation into potential "defects or irregularities" during the 2020 presidential election count.
The allegations detailed in the affidavit are largely based on claims that people who, like the President, firmly believe the 2020 election was fraudulent have long been making, according to the Associated Press.
The reason this affidavit has caught the attention of left-leaning media is that the justification for the search of the Fulton County election management center has not been revealed until now.
Meanwhile, regarding the results of the 2020 presidential election, Georgia has seen its audits, state officials, courts, and even former Attorney General William Barr refute claims of election fraud.
One of the "defects or irregularities" investigators are looking into, the affidavit states, is Fulton County's admission that it does not possess scanned images of all ballots counted during the initial tabulation or recount process.
Furthermore, Fulton County has confirmed that some ballots were scanned multiple times during the recount process, the affidavit indicates.
"If these defects are the result of intentional conduct, it would be a violation of federal law, regardless of whether the failure to preserve records or the absence of a fair tabulation of votes critically affected the outcome of a particular election or race," the affidavit states.
The affidavit specifies that the seizure of election records was necessary to determine whether election records were destroyed or if the vote tabulation included significantly false votes.
This references potential violations of laws concerning the preservation and maintenance of election records (misdemeanors), as well as laws that criminalize the "intentional and willful" deprivation of a "fair and equitable election process" for citizens (felonies).
