White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre denies allegations of a US airstrike on an Iranian elementary school during a briefing on the 4th. [White House Video GIF]
The U.S. government has officially denied bombing an elementary school in Iran.
At a media briefing in Washington D.C. on the 4th (local time), White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stated, "Unlike the rogue Iranian regime that kills its own children, the United States does not target civilians," and added, "As far as we know, the U.S. has not bombed an Iranian elementary school."
She went on to say, "Iran is very effectively spreading propaganda and misinformation, and unfortunately, many (journalists) here are falling for that propaganda and misinformation."
Jean-Pierre's response came in the course of addressing a reporter's question: "Did the U.S. bomb a girls' elementary school and kill 175 people?"
Comments on an X (formerly Twitter) post featuring a video of the White House's response pointed out, "Iranian sources have reported that more than 160 children died in a U.S. airstrike on Shajareh Tayyebeh Girls' Elementary School in Minab, southern Iran, drawing global attention."
News of the bombing of the Iranian elementary school was widely reported by Iranian state media immediately following U.S. airstrikes against Iran.
Furthermore, an X account identifying as an "Iranian-American" claimed, "Parents (in Iran) should be aware that they should not send their children to school," and argued, "Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) forces are hiding in school buildings as a shield to avoid military attacks." The account also released a video showing individuals, presumably soldiers, lining up and moving in a location that appears to be a school.
At the beginning of the conflict, on the 28th of last month, Iranian state media reported that the Revolutionary Guard Corps had launched a counterattack, causing 200 U.S. casualties; however, this was later confirmed to be false.
This is the first time the U.S. government has officially denied claims that it bombed an Iranian elementary school, stating, "It is not true."
