The three major U.S. stock market indices, which started the day lower on the 9th (local time), all closed higher.
As international oil prices, which had surged, showed signs of stabilizing, and with reports of U.S. President Donald Trump's remarks that the war with Iran could end soon, the New York stock market reduced its losses and turned to an upward trend.
On this day, the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 47,740.80, up 239.25 points (0.50%) from the previous trading day.
The S&P 500 index closed at 6,795.99, up 55.97 points (0.83%) from the previous trading day, and the Nasdaq Composite index, led by technology stocks, closed at 22,695.95, up 308.27 points (1.38%) from the previous trading day.
International oil prices, which had risen to $119 per barrel at one point during trading due to concerns about production disruptions from the de facto blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, saw their gains reduced amid discussions of coordinated responses from major countries.
G7 finance ministers held a video conference today, led by the G7 presidency France, to discuss the international oil price situation and countermeasures in response to the Middle East conflict.
The ministers later issued a statement saying, "We will continue to closely monitor the energy market situation and changes," and added, "We are prepared to take necessary actions, including releasing strategic petroleum reserves."
Remarks from President Trump indicating the impending end of the conflict also emerged.
President Trump said in a phone interview with CBS News, "I believe this is the beginning of the end of the war," according to a reporter who relayed the information on X (formerly Twitter).
President Trump emphasized, "They (Iranian forces) have no navy, no communication, and no air force," and that the war situation was "much further along" than the estimated four to five weeks initially anticipated.
John Luke Tyner of Aptos Capital Advisors commented, "The market still seems to expect this situation to be short-lived," adding that the possibility of the S&P index falling below 6,200 cannot be ruled out if the war lasts longer than expected.
Sam Stovall, chief investment strategist at CFRA Research, also stated, "There is still a great deal of uncertainty regarding the duration of the conflict and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz," and analyzed, "The relative reversal in price movements, like today's, suggests that investors are looking for opportunities to re-enter the stock market."
