The civic group Freedom Korean Homeland Association (Representative Oh Sang-jong) expressed strong regret over the prosecution's decision regarding the "unlawful occupation of Rep. Park Soo-young's constituency office incident" that occurred in 2024 and announced further action.
"10 Hours of Confinement and Occupation, Yet Only a Fine"... Criticism of Prosecution's Decision
The Homeland Association strongly criticized the prosecution's decision to issue a "summary fine" for some of the protesters who forcibly occupied Rep. Park Soo-young's office in Nam-gu, Busan, on December 28, 2024.
At the time, the protesters entered the office under the pretext of meeting with local residents, effectively confining Rep. Park and staging a sit-in protest for approximately 10 hours. In response, the Homeland Association filed a complaint against about 20 individuals on charges of joint refusal to vacate, confinement, obstruction of business, and obstruction of special official duties.
However, the Busan District Prosecutors' Office recently concluded its investigation by issuing a summary fine for violation of the Act on the Punishment of Acts of Violence, etc. (joint refusal to vacate) against only 5 of the accused.
The Homeland Association stated on the 16th, "It is utterly illogical that such a lenient punishment was handed down despite the violation of the parliamentary activity space, which is the foundation of democracy, and the prolonged illegal occupation," and vowed to "respond until just legal enforcement is achieved."
8 People Power Party Lawmakers Face Disciplinary Action Request... "Demand for No Nomination for Expelled Member"
Meanwhile, on the same day, the Homeland Association publicly announced that it had requested disciplinary action against several incumbent lawmakers belonging to the People Power Party.
The individuals subject to the disciplinary request filed with the People Power Party's ethics committee by the Homeland Association are a total of 8 lawmakers: Kwak Gyu-taek, Park Jeong-hoon, Jin Jong-oh, Woo Jae-jun, Song Seok-jun, Ahn Sang-hoon, Joo Ho-young, and Han Ki-ho.
These lawmakers were targeted for disciplinary action under the grounds that they advocated for "no nomination" in the relevant constituency for a "specific individual expelled from the party." The Homeland Association considers their actions to have destabilized party discipline and betrayed the duties of a public party, and officially filed the disciplinary request on April 17, 2026.
