A public opinion poll has revealed that over 70% of respondents agree with the dissolution of the Election Commission.
PENN & MIKE commissioned Korea Research & Consulting Co., Ltd., a polling firm, to conduct a survey on December 12th and 13th. The survey asked 1,001 men and women aged 18 and over, "To what extent do you agree with the claim to dissolve the Election Commission?"
The results showed a significant majority in favor, with △Agree accounting for 73.4%, △Disagree at 20.1%, and △Don't Know at 6.6%.
Among those who agreed, 52.8% responded with "Strongly Agree," while 9.9% of those who disagreed stated "Strongly Disagree."
Looking at the regions where respondents agreed, the breakdown was as follows: △Daegu/Gyeongbuk 81.2% △Busan/Ulsan/Gyeongnam 77.0% △Gyeonggi/Incheon 74.5% △Seoul 73.5% △Gangwon/Jeju 73.5% △Gwangju/Jeonnam/Jeonbuk 67.7% △Daejeon/Sejong/Chungnam/Chungbuk 62.6%.
Interestingly, Gwangju/Jeonnam/Jeonbuk showed a more positive response to the dissolution of the Election Commission than the Chungcheong region.
By gender, the responses were evenly split between men (73.6%) and women (73.2%). By age group, the results were: △Under 20s 65.8% △30s (74.1%) △40s (74.8%) △50s (75.0%) △60s (77.9%) △70 and over (71.2%).
This also revealed, intriguingly, a significantly high opinion for the dissolution of the Election Commission among the 40s and 50s age groups, who are often characterized as leaning left.

In a separate survey asking about the president's responsibility regarding the shortage of ballot papers, "The president is responsible" received 61.2% of the votes, significantly outnumbering the "Not responsible" response at 37.0%.
The president's approval rating also reportedly fell below 50%. When asked about the evaluation of state management, "Negative" responses were higher at 51.4% compared to "Positive" responses at 45.1%.
In terms of party support, the People Power Party led with 46.8%, ahead of the Democratic Party at 35.9%. Those who stated "No party support" accounted for 5.7%.
The survey was conducted via wireless ARS phone interviews using a structured questionnaire. The response rate for the wireless RDD (100%) was 3.5%. The margin of error was ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level. Quotas were assigned based on the population proportions of gender, age, and region, and weights were applied (rim weighting) based on the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's resident registration population statistics as of the end of May 2026.
