Congressional investigators are preparing for a legal battle as they ready to employ all means to uncover the circumstances under which Representative Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) and her husband, Tim Mynett, amassed an estate worth up to $30 million in just a few years, the New York Post reported.
"The goal is to win in court and, at the same time, uncover the reasons behind Rep. Omar's surging net worth," said House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) in an interview with the New York Post.
Comer revealed in a New York Post interview last week that he is considering issuing a subpoena to Omar's husband, Tim Mynett. He stated that the core issue is whether Mynett's businesses are jointly owned with Omar.
Business records are unclear about joint ownership, and while Omar declared her husband's assets and income as required by federal law, she did not disclose her personal ownership stake in her own financial disclosure filings.
Her husband's stakes in eStCru, a winery in California, and Rose Lake Capital, a venture capital firm in Washington D.C., constitute the majority of the couple's assets.
Federal financial disclosure forms do not list exact amounts, and asset values are reported in approximate ranges.
The winery, registered under the name eStCru LLC, saw its corporate value skyrocket from between $15,000 and $50,000 in 2023 to between $1 million and $5 million the following year.
Rose Lake Capital showed an even steeper increase, with its asset value surging from between $1 and $1,000 in 2023 to between $5 million and $25 million in 2024.
This wealth accumulation has drawn the attention of many, including former President Trump, who stated on Truth Social on Monday the 26th: "The Department of Justice and Congress are investigating Rep. Ilhan Omar, who fled Somalia with nothing and is now reportedly worth over $44 million. All truth will come out in time."
Forbes, in an article on Tuesday the 27th, analyzed Trump's claim of $44 million as an inaccurate estimation. While stating "it's impossible to know for sure," Forbes estimated Omar's "actual net worth to be somewhere between -$40,000 and $115,000."

The New York Times reported that the Justice Department investigation mentioned by Trump began in 2024 under the Biden administration and appears to be in a stalemate due to a lack of evidence.
Omar had previously faced allegations regarding potential omissions of information required for her 2021 financial disclosure and receipt of advance payments for a book, but these were dismissed by the House Ethics Committee in March 2022.
According to reports by the Washington Free Beacon, shortly after Mynett co-founded Rose Lake Capital with business partner Will Hallier in 2022, Omar established the U.S.-Africa Policy Working Group, leading a group of 20 lawmakers "dedicated to building partnerships with the African continent."
Since then, Omar and Mynett have been spotted together at events hosted by EBII Group, a company that promotes international investment in Africa. Omar delivered a keynote address at EBII Group's Africa Leaders and Partners Forum in 2023, urging Congress to approve a "$44 billion lifeline for the African community."
Meanwhile, Hallier, the CEO of Rose Lake, led a panel discussion at the same forum, discussing the challenges faced by international investors seeking to extract capital from African nations.
Hallier, a former senior advisor to the Democratic National Committee (DNC), stated in a sworn affidavit filed in November 2024 that Rose Lake "provides consulting services to global businesses and has built relationships with investment bankers, private equity and venture capital firms, corporate operators, and consultants worldwide."
Rose Lake Capital is the second private equity fund established by Mynett and Hallier. Their first fund, eSt Ventures, was sued by two South Dakota-based cannabis companies, which alleged that Mynett and Hallier misappropriated $1.7 million of a $3.5 million investment for purposes other than those specified.
When the cannabis companies demanded the return of their investment, Hallier claimed that the U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) had placed a freeze on the fund, the Free Beacon reported. OFAC is responsible for trade sanctions against foreign and terrorist regimes involved in the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
Conservative influencer Benny Johnson investigated Mynett's winery and found no phone lines, no actual winery, social media activity had ceased since 2023, the website was not properly functioning, and there was no wine at all.
In a post on X, Johnson pointed out, "Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison, who previously worked with Mynett, is the same person who refused to investigate the Somali fraud case."
Johnson added, "Ironically, one of the wine labels they created was literally called 'The Devil's Lie.' The Trump administration and Republican lawmakers must thoroughly investigate this fraud case further."
