Bank of America (BofA) announced on the 28th (local time) that it would provide an amount equivalent to the federal government's $1,000 support for the children of its 165,000 U.S. employees for a Trump Account, matching it with its own funds.
This move places BofA among a rapidly growing list of major companies, including BlackRock, Intel, Charles Schwab, JPMorgan Chase, Charter Communications, Robinhood, SoFi, and Uber, that view Trump Accounts as a competitive employee benefit and a tool for intergenerational wealth accumulation.
Section 530A of the "One Big Beautiful Bill Act," passed last year, officially launches the so-called "Trump Account" on July 4th.
The Trump administration foresees a future where all citizens accumulate wealth through investing, stating that the Trump Account will allow America's next generation to experience "investment."
Children born between January 1, 2025, and December 31, 2028, will receive a one-time federal contribution of $1,000, regardless of family income. There are no restrictions such as income verification or income caps. Actual disbursements will begin on July 4, 2026.
Parents with U.S. citizen children under the age of 18 who have a Social Security number, as of this year, can file IRS Form 4547 with their 2025 tax return or open an account later through TrumpAccounts.gov.
Family members can contribute up to $5,000 annually (with adjustments for inflation after 2027). Employers can contribute an additional $2,500 per year, which is excluded from the employee's taxable income, and this amount is included within the family contribution limit of $5,000.
The accumulated funds will primarily be invested in index funds tracking U.S. stocks, growing with tax-deferred benefits. Withdrawals are restricted until the age of 18. Upon turning 18, funds can be withdrawn for housing, starting a business, or educational expenses. The remaining balance will automatically convert to a traditional IRA.
These funds can lead to substantial wealth through compound interest. A child who receives $1,000 from the government at birth and consistently saves $2,500 annually could accumulate approximately $85,000 by age 18, assuming an average annual return of 6%. If this amount remains untouched until retirement at age 65, it could grow to about $1.2 million.
Bank of New York Mellon was the first major financial institution to announce a matching fund program in December 2025. BlackRock followed in January 2026, then Charles Schwab, with other institutions subsequently joining.
If one major bank offers a $1,000 match while competing banks do not, it becomes a significant differentiator for customer acquisition and retention. If current trends continue, matching contributions from Fortune 500 companies could become standard within 12-18 months, according to Breitbart News. This is the same mechanism that made 401(k)s ubiquitous.
In addition to corporate matching contributions, significant philanthropic funds are also pouring in. Michael and Susan Dell have pledged $6.25 billion, one of the largest donations in U.S. history, to help 25 million children living in middle-class neighborhoods save $250 per month. Ray Dalio and his wife Barbara have committed the same amount for approximately 300,000 children residing in Connecticut.
State governments are also participating. Texas leaders have proposed adding $1,000 per account. State Treasurer Scott Benson's "50 State Challenge" aims for all states to contribute.
Even if only half of the states participate at the Texas level, millions of children will receive $2,000 to $3,000, excluding family or employer contributions. Similar to the private sector, states are likely to compete for residents by offering these funds, especially in an environment of low population growth like the present.
Let's assume a Bank of America employee's child is born in Texas in 2026. They would receive $1,000 from the government, $1,000 in matching funds from Bank of America, and $1,000 from the state. This means a total of $3,000 at birth, excluding family contributions. Adding a small payroll deduction and employer contributions within the $5,000 annual limit, this child could accumulate between $85,000 and $100,000 by age 18.
Visa intends to allow credit card customers to use their earned points to contribute to Trump Accounts, a newly established child tax-advantaged savings product under recent federal legislation. The company stated it would collaborate with issuing banks to make rewards redeemable into accounts, enabling families to convert everyday spending into long-term savings.
The universal structure of this program, which is available to anyone without an income cap, follows a Social Security model rather than a welfare system based on income levels. This has significant implications for its political sustainability.
Programs that exclude high earners tend to lose support, while universal programs build a base of support that spans various income brackets. Therefore, Breitbart News analyzes that the program is likely to be extended indefinitely beyond its current scheduled end date of 2028.
Trump stated that these accounts will help middle-class Americans build wealth, and the wealth built for young Americans will be more valuable than any government program for children.
"We are instilling in them ownership of the American future so that they can forge their own destiny and make our country greater, stronger, and more magnificent than ever before," Trump said.
The investment requirement—that funds must be invested in index funds tracking American companies—means that every child with a Trump Account directly benefits when the S&P 500 rises, corporate profits increase, and American businesses thrive.
A generation that watches their account balances grow with a rising stock market will have a fundamentally different attitude towards economic policy. They will feel a sense of responsibility for economic activity.
At a ceremony announcing the launch of the Trump Account on Wednesday morning, the 28th, Treasury Secretary Benson explained that it would create a remarkable situation where all citizens are intertwined with the nation's economy. He stated that 600,000 families have already applied for a Trump Account.
