Heavy rainfall overnight triggers flood of damage reports in Asan and Cheonan… 8 rescued

As of the early hours of the 22nd, heavy rainfall has caused consecutive damage in the Asan and Cheonan areas of South Chungcheong Province, including flooded roads and fallen trees.


According to the South Chungcheong Fire Headquarters on the 22nd, a total of 42 reports of rain-related damage, including 5 rescue requests, were recorded in the northern region of South Chungcheong Province between midnight and 6:30 a.m. that day.


Most of the reports involved flooding and fallen trees, and were concentrated in the Cheonan and Asan areas.


Starting around 4 a.m. that day, reports were filed regarding flooding in various locations, including the underpass at Yeomchi Intersection in Yeomchi-eup, Asan, and roads along national highways in Yeongin-myeon.


Police and fire authorities rescued a total of 8 people, including drivers and passengers, from vehicles stranded on the flooded roads.


No casualties from the heavy rain have been reported thus far.


The cities of Asan and Cheonan issued multiple disaster text alerts starting at 3:58 a.m. that day, notifying the public of road closures due to flooding and advising residents to prepare for potential landslides and river flooding.


As of 5 a.m. that day, rainfall was recorded at 125mm in Asan and 23mm in Jiksan, Cheonan. The region experienced intense, concentrated bursts of rain, with Asan recording 62mm per hour and Jiksan in Cheonan recording 21.5mm per hour.


The heavy rain warnings that had been issued for Asan and Cheonan were lifted at 6:00 a.m. and 6:30 a.m., respectively.
