North Korean leader Kim Jong Un met with a Chinese party and government delegation led by Wang Huning, Chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), who visited North Korea to mark the 65th anniversary of the North Korea-China Treaty of Friendship, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported on the 17th. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un met with Wang Huning, Chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) currently visiting Pyongyang, to emphasize the strategic nature of the North Korea-China treaty and reaffirm his commitment to strengthening bilateral relations based on it.

The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported on the 17th that Chairman Kim met with the Chinese party and government delegation led by Wang on the 16th.

Chairman Kim expressed his gratitude for the "well-wishes and comradely greetings" from President Xi Jinping, conveyed by Chairman Wang, and requested that his own "greetings" be relayed to President Xi.

In doing so, he highly praised the significance of the Chinese delegation's visit, stating, "Sending a high-level party and government delegation to our country is an expression of our firm resolve to value North Korea-China relations and to implement without hesitation the matters agreed upon during the Pyongyang summit."

Regarding the North Korea-China Treaty of Friendship, which celebrates its 65th anniversary this year, he emphasized that it is "an inter-state treaty that defines the strategic nature and presents the strategic direction of relations between the two countries," adding that it "is playing a vital role in safeguarding the fundamental interests of both nations and ensuring peace and security in the region and the world."

He further stressed his commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation, stating, "It is the unwavering policy of the Workers' Party of Korea and the government of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea to further develop the traditional friendly and cooperative relations, rooted in socialism, more vibrantly across various fields in line with the changing demands of the era and the aspirations and wishes of the peoples of the two countries."

Chairman Kim also added, "We will continue to steadfastly support and uphold the cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era, led by General Secretary Xi Jinping."

The KCNA reported that Chairman Wang expressed his gratitude for the hospitality shown to the delegation by the North Korean side and "expressed his willingness to fully implement the important consensus and agreements reached during the historic Pyongyang summit, to enhance political mutual trust and bilateral solidarity, and to expand and develop mutual cooperation and coordination."

News of the Chinese delegation's meeting with Chairman Kim was reported on the front page of the Rodong Sinmun, which is read by North Korean citizens.

While China's state-run Xinhua News Agency only reported on the delegation’s attendance at the 65th-anniversary banquet the previous day, it released a follow-up report on this day covering the entire schedule of the visit, including Chairman Wang’s meeting with Chairman Kim.

According to Xinhua, Chairman Kim stated that "President Xi's recent historic visit to North Korea served as a milestone in making North Korea-China relations a model for relations between socialist countries."

Xinhua reported that Chairman Kim congratulated the Communist Party of China on its 105th anniversary and declared that North Korea would maintain the principle of treating the development of North Korea-China relations as its most important strategic endeavor.

Furthermore, Chairman Kim said he would strengthen high-level exchanges with China and deepen the sharing of experience in areas such as party building to enhance political and strategic mutual trust, while expanding cooperation in sectors including the economy, science and technology, public health, and culture to bring more benefits to the people of both nations.

North Korean media reported that the delegation engaged in various activities beyond the meeting with Chairman Kim.

On the second day of the visit, the delegation paid a tribute at the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun, where the bodies of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il are enshrined.

According to the KCNA, the ribbon on the flower basket laid by the delegation bore the words, "Comrades Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il will live forever," and after paying his respects, Chairman Wang wrote in the guestbook, "North Korea-China friendship will be passed down through generations."

The delegation also visited the Cemetery of the Martyrs of the Chinese People's Volunteer Army in the Sunan District of Pyongyang—a burial ground for Chinese soldiers who participated in the Korean War—and toured the Central Cadres School of the Workers' Party, the highest educational institution for training party officials in North Korea. The delegation took commemorative photos against the backdrop of the tree planted by Chairman Kim and President Xi during the latter's visit to North Korea last month.

Xinhua also noted that Chairman Wang visited and inspected Wonsan city. Although specific details of the visit were not disclosed, Jo Yong Won, Secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, who held talks on the 15th, accompanied him on the inspection.

At the banquet commemorating the 65th anniversary of the treaty held at the Yanggakdo International Hotel that day, Premier of the Cabinet Pak Tae Song stated in his speech that the delegation's visit was "a meaningful occasion that demonstrates the strategic nature of the treaty and the vitality of North Korea-China friendship." He added, "We will actively promote the common prosperity and a new flourishing development of the friendship between the two countries, and we will move forward hand-in-hand with our Chinese comrades in the journey to oppose hegemonism and advance the cause of socialism to victory."

The KCNA reported that at this event, Chairman Wang recalled that "the peoples of both countries have forged a great militant friendship with blood in the struggle to achieve national independence and national liberation while sharing life and death, joy and sorrow," and declared that the Chinese government's firm stance on bilateral friendly relations will remain unchanged.
