People Power Party (PPP) lawmaker Kim Tae-gyu has taken a firm stance against the Democratic Party’s (DP) hypocritical double standards.
During a plenary session of the National Assembly’s Legislation and Judiciary Committee on the 21st, while questioning the Minister of Government Legislation, Rep. Kim remarked, “Mr. Kim Min-seok, who has become a leader of the Democratic Party, says he will call Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae a ‘law technician.’”
In response, DP lawmakers immediately protested, shouting and using informal language, claiming that the term “Mr. Kim Min-seok” was “disrespectful.”
Rep. Kim sternly shot back, saying, “Shut Up!” “Why are you using informal language?” and “Who do you think you’re talking to?” When a DP member retorted, “Aren’t you my junior?” Rep. Kim countered, “Is this a place to be discussing age?” As the DP side continued to chatter, he demanded order, saying, “Just be quiet while I’m asking a question.”
Rep. Kim strongly rebuked the substandard behavior of the opposition party that day. He sharply criticized their abysmal level of conduct, noting that while they turned a blind eye when members of their own party called the Chief Justice—one of the three heads of government—simply “Mr. Cho Hee-dae” or threatened him with impeachment, they became enraged and lectured him on etiquette simply because he referred to their party leader as “Mr. Kim Min-seok.”
Political insiders commented positively on Rep. Kim's actions, stating, “Lawmaker Kim Tae-gyu directly called out the opposition’s attempts to undermine the judiciary and their hypocritical double standards,” adding, “It was a move that established principles without being swayed by the shouting of the large ruling party.”
