U.S. President Donald Trump on the 20th (local time) reiterated his criticism of the Iran nuclear deal (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, JCPOA) spearheaded by then-President Barack Obama in 2015 and emphasized the legitimacy of the recently concluded U.S.-Iran Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
On his social media platform Truth Social on this day, Trump said, "The radical left fools and the 'Dumocrats' (a portmanteau of 'Democrats' and 'Dumb') are realizing how well we did in the war with Iran, and that Iran was completely defeated militarily."
He added, "Obama just kept giving billions of dollars in cash to Iran and didn't do what he should have to subdue Iran, the world's leading sponsor of terrorism, by mobilizing our military, which was already weakened at the time."
He also claimed that Iran "never respected Obama at all" and "they thought Obama was a weak and incompetent leader, just like 'Sleepy Joe' Biden, and they were 100% right about that."
Trump then stated, "Iran committed 'murders' for 47 years and was not punished until I came along. Then everything changed. America is back."
This is interpreted as a reiteration of his claim that the Obama administration's Iran nuclear deal failed and his hardline approach brought Iran to its knees. Amid recent criticisms that the MOU is an "agreement too favorable to Iran," it is also interpreted as an attempt to directly refute these claims and defend the agreement's legitimacy.
In a separate post, Trump conducted a mini-poll himself on how to best spell "Dumocrats."
