Police officer involved in the 'false closure' of a missing person case in Jeju leaving his warrant validity hearing [Yonhap News file photo]
DNA belonging to Police Officer A, who was arrested on charges of falsely closing a missing person case in Jeju, has been discovered in a women's restroom at the police station where he worked.
According to the Jeju Provincial Police Agency on the 27th, DNA found in palm prints on the upper walls on both sides of a toilet stall in the Jeju Seobu Police Station's women's restroom was identified as a match for Officer A.
In addition to the charges related to the false closure of missing person cases, Officer A is also under investigation for violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment, etc. of Sexual Crimes (trespassing into public facilities for sexual purposes).
Officer A was caught on or around July 22 after entering the women's restroom at the Jeju Seobu Police Station and encountering a female officer entering the facility.
The police conducted a forensic examination of the interior of the restroom and collected palm prints from areas including the top of the toilet stall and the ceiling.
However, it was reported that collecting fingerprints was difficult due to the presence of dust.
Officer A denies the allegations, claiming that he "did not enter for sexual purposes."
Officer A is also accused of falsely closing the missing person reports for a woman in her 30s, surnamed Jang, and a man in his 60s on May 15.
Ms. Jang was found dead on the 24th, 104 days after the initial missing person report, and the body of the man in his 60s was also recovered on the 22nd, 51 days after he went missing.
