Amidst public outrage over the shortage of ballot papers in the June 3rd local elections, it has been revealed that ballot paper shortages also occurred during last year's presidential election and the local elections four years ago.

According to data received by Rep. Im Mi-ae of the Democratic Party of Korea from the National Election Commission on the 18th, polling stations that received additional ballots due to anticipated shortages from provincial election management committees were recorded as 2 locations for the 2022 local elections, 1 location for the 22nd general elections in 2024, and 42 locations for last year's presidential election.

In the case of the local elections held four years ago, 100 and 200 additional ballots were sent to two polling stations, respectively.

Among these, one additional ballot was used at the 6th polling station in Doyang-eup, Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do.

During last year's presidential election, 50 to 500 additional ballots were distributed to 42 polling stations.

Of these, 12 additional ballots were used at the 10th polling station in Hwawon-eup, Dalseong-gun, Daegu.

However, unlike the June 3rd local elections, polling was not suspended at these polling stations.

In the June 3rd local elections, additional ballots were sent to 140 polling stations.

Among these, 91 polling stations used the additional ballots, and 26 polling stations experienced a suspension of voting due to a shortage of ballots.
