[Photo = Yonhap News]People Power Party lawmakers have been indicted on charges of obstructing the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) and police from executing an arrest warrant for former President Yoon Suk Yeol.
The Second Special Prosecutor's Team led by Kwon Chang-young announced on the 14th that it has indicted People Power Party lawmakers Na Kyung-won, Kim Gi-hyeon, Yoon Sang-hyun, and Kwon Young-jin without detention on charges of special obstruction of official duties.
These lawmakers are accused of forming a human wall alongside supporters of former President Yoon in front of the presidential residence on January 15, 2025, to hinder the CIO and police from executing the arrest warrant against him.
The special prosecutor's team explained that the charges were confirmed by synthesizing statements from various public officials who participated in the warrant execution, including CIO prosecutors, and transcripts of verbal abuse captured in 94 gigabytes of video footage recorded at the scene.
The team further stated, "We have indicted the defendants because we confirmed that they did not merely express opposition to the arrest, but actively obstructed the execution of the warrant in reality by forming a human wall with numerous people at the scene to block entry into the presidential residence."
