The youthful, 20-year-old faces of gray-haired war veterans have been restored through artificial intelligence (AI) by the hands of young volunteers.

The youth volunteer group 'Roll in the Memory' announced on the 26th that they visited the Yeonsu-gu Veterans Hall in Incheon on the 25th to present 12 Korean War and Vietnam War veterans with restored photos of their younger selves.

The volunteer group, comprised of nursing and medical students as well as working nurses, sat down one-on-one with the veterans to share stories and engage in deep meaningful connection.

The volunteers checked the veterans' vital signs and took portraits of them in their uniforms, which were then gifted to them in wooden frames. The AI-restored photos of the veterans from their youth were also unveiled as a surprise during the event.

Lee Jun-hyun (a medical student at Catholic Kwandong University), who took the portraits of the veterans, said, "Through the viewfinder, I could see a sense of dignity in their eyes that has remained unchanged despite the passage of time," adding, "I hope these photos help them recall happy memories."

Roll in the Memory coordinated directly with the Veterans Hall and recruited volunteers to organize this 'Visiting Hero Vitality Photo Studio 2nd Term' event.

The volunteer recruitment drew over 330 applicants from across the country, demonstrating the young generation's interest in history.

Kim Du-ho, CEO of Roll in the Memory and a nursing student at Baekseok University, remarked, "It was such a heartwarming time that some were moved to tears," and added, "I hope there will be more volunteer work by the younger generation for our war veterans in the future."
